1. Why should I test my well?

2. How often should I test my well water?
- Regular monitoring of your well water quality is the only way to be sure your water is safe.
- Bacterial quality should be checked every 6 months.
- Chemical quality should be tested every 1 to 2 years.
- Test earlier if you notice any changes.
3. What are the steps to testing my well water?
1. Decide what you want to test for; there are various packages available.
2. Pick up water collection sample bottles from our Windsor or Kingston locations.
3. Collect the samples, as according to the sample collection procedure.
4. Drop off the samples to Envirosphere Labs in the appropriate timeframe.
4. My water is clear and tastes good, does that mean it is safe to drink?
No, clear and clean water may have dangerous bacteria living or harmful chemicals dissolved in it that would be harmful to your health.
5. Is my water safe to drink if bacteria is absent?
No, there may be harmful chemicals dissolved in it that would be harmful to your health.
6. How do I keep my clean water clean?
- Conduct regular well maintenance.
- Create a grass buffer zone around your wellhead.
- Slope the area around the wellhead so that the surface water runs away from your well.
- Dispose of wastes safely – Never put wastes in an abandoned well. Never dispose of hazardous materials in your septic system or on the ground.
