Mr. Patrick Stewart, M.Sc. Oceanography, President of Envirosphere Consultants Limited, has over 35 years’ experience in environmental science and consulting, aquatic ecology and environmental assessment. He has carried out, managed, and overseen projects ranging from field surveys of biological organisms in streams, and environmental assessments of aquatic and terrestrial environments, to marine studies and environmental management and monitoring, impact assessment, and taxonomic studies. He has experience with offshore hydrocarbon development through his participation as a consultant to Exxon Mobil Canada in developing their environmental assessment for the Sable Offshore Energy Project and environmental studies at the pipeline landfall; and supporting the company through participation in the team defending the project through the CEAA Environmental Review. His broad knowledge and ability to coordinate projects of a multidisciplinary nature are key assets.

Heather Levy

Biologist and Lab Manager

Ms. Heather Levy (B.Sc. Hons. Env. Sci.) will be Intermediate Environmental Professional, conducting background reviews and the site visit. Heather has over eighteen years’ experience with Envirosphere Consultants, providing environmental services for a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects such as regional freshwater monitoring programs, fish habitat assessments and monitoring, and environmental assessments. Her academic background includes geology and biology, with a specialization in environmental science. Ms. Levy’s expertise covers both technical and management aspects of field studies, water quality, and she is experienced in obtaining regulatory approvals for aggregate quarry licensing, fish habitat modifications, and watercourse and wetland alterations. Ms. Levy routinely contributes to environmental assessments of projects including quarry expansions and other infrastructure or industry projects in Nova Scotia. In particular, Ms. Levy provides regulatory guidance and recommendations for dealing with Species at Risk and species of concern for terrestrial, freshwater and coastal projects. Ms. Levy is also responsible for water quality testing laboratory management including annual accreditation audits, and compliance with accreditation policies and procedures; consulting on drinking water quality and environmental aspects of land-use planning; and supervision of services provided.

Hayley Doyle

Hayley Doyle

Environmental Professional

Ms. Hayley Doyle (B.Sc. Env. Sci.) has been an environmental professional in Nova Scotia for several years, most recently since joining Envirosphere Consultants in 2020. Projects with Envirosphere have included environmental assessments of quarry developments, and coastal dyke reconstructions; and participation in a hydrocarbon remediation project, and baseline studies for environmental risk assessment. She has participated in freshwater fish habitat surveys and assessments and habitat restoration and has led fish sampling projects. Ms. Doyle regularly assists with environmental assessment and monitoring projects by providing environmental input and gathering information from consultation with community members, councilors and First Nation groups on the status of biological communities as well as environmental issues and concerns for the development of private or public industrial properties, including quarries.

Joy Baker

Joy Baker

Environmental Technologist

Ms. Joy Baker (Diploma in Environmental Engineering) has participated in a wide range of projects through recent studies and employment as a technologist with Envirosphere Consultants since April 2015. In her role she routinely carries out on-site sampling of private and public water supplies, in particular conducting regular and specialized water quality sampling for Agriculture Canada’s Kentville Research Station. Joy has had a significant involvement in a major project to carry out fish capture and rescue of migrating fish at the Lake Major Dam, HRM; has participated in collecting and analyzing benthic invertebrate samples and water quality data from various environmental monitoring projects including solid waste management facilities; and carried out sample processing and management for various lab projects involving benthic invertebrate samples.

Lab Analyst

Ms. Michelle Hildebrand (B.Sc. Chem.) is our laboratory technical director. She is responsible for technical operations in the laboratory, including method development, implementing statistical procedures, ensuring proper calibration and operation of equipment, ensuring that the Quality Management System is communicated to all staff, and providing instruction on methods and procedures. She is also involved in streamlining sample reception procedures and outputting of results, as well as development of new laboratory methods.
